Backpacking in Juan De Fuca - Day 2

Start · French Beach · Day 1 · Day 2 · Day 3 · China Beach

Hiking on Bear Beach Entering the rain forest Trail along the ocean
We left the next day at 10am. It was a beautiful warm day.
This part of the trail is considered to be the most difficult part. It was a mixture of beach and forest hike with lots of uphill and downhill.
Tree steps aid hikers Some rocks to go through Hiking on rocky beach
Some part of the trails are aided with some man made tree steps. Some are rocky.
Second canopy at KM24 Sun rays through the thick forest Trail view of the ocean
Here's the second canopy at KM24. This area is already past the Chin Beach, where we were supposed to spend our second night. We still had enough energy and time to go on so we proceeded to the next campground, Sombrio Beach.
Still an hour away to Sombrio Beach Getting close to Sombrio Beach Sombrio Beach
(1) From this spot, we could already see Sombrio Beach. The most annoying part was, it was still an hour away. It was the longest drag ever.
Camping on Sombrio Beach and our day 3 is next.

Hey, I did that trail two years ago! The rain forest is really cool. This is a good alternative to the West Coast Trail, which fills up.
