Hiking and scrambling in Mt. Rysy, highest mountain of Poland
Updated: January 9, 2014
This trip took us 3hrs up and 3hrs down. The trail is flat around the lakes and the rest is a steep ascent. The last 1/4 of the way is a fun scramble. Rysy is also very popular to hikers so most scrambling areas are aided by chains. Trail signs are also all over the place. Our descent was joined by a thunderstorm, rain, and hale so the chains proved to be very helpful. Suprisingly there were more people still ascending the mountain inspite of the bad weather. Apparently two people were reported to have been struck by lightning while we were there.
Tatra Mountain Range is bordered by Poland and Slovakia. The two towers of Rysy are divided into these two countries. 2499m for Poland and 2503m for slovakia. They're 5mins apart.
