We booked our trip to Chiang Mai at H.I.T Travel in Soi Rambuttri. It's a Korean owned company and they were pretty comfortable to deal with. The bus though was co-operated by the
"Nice Place" Guesthouse
in Chiang Mai.
We arrived in Chiang Mai at 6am from a 12hr overnight bus trip. After the bus, we were picked up by a number of pickup trucks and they took us to the "Nice Place" Guesthouse for free coffee... and a push to take their trekking tour. Some of the other tourist on the bus with us already booked their trekking trip with them. The arrangement was supposed to be: 6am arrival, trek tour at 9am. They were surprised to find out that the tour would start the next day instead. They had no choice but to spend extra money for food and accommodation, and to adjust their itinerary. The room cost was also 150BAHT, then changed to 200BAHT.
The staff at the "Nice Place" guesthouse changed their attitude on us after refusing to take their trek tour. We were then told to immideately check out the next day because their rooms there were apparently for their trekkers only. We asked where the tourism office is located. We were told that it was closed down and relocated, and can only be reached by a cab. We asked somewhere else and we walked there. It was open, and was never moved.
We visited a few temples in and around the Chiang Mai Square. The public bathroom shown below is a rare treat here so I considered it a site itself.
